the album mu consists of 20 minimal sound poetry pieces constructed exclusively from vocal sounds. the material ranges from abstract sound structures to occasional words in german and english, which are always conceived first as sound and only then as meaning. each piece follows a simple compositional idea, a single constraint, gesture, or process that is consistently carried out. the results are minimal and precise: studies in breath, repetition, and the space between intentional expression and random noise.
in the zen tradition, mu is the answer that unasks the question, a word that points beyond binary yes-no logic. in phonetics, it is simply a voiced bilabial sound, the humming of an opening mouth. in german, mu is um read backward, the preposition of transformation and enclosure. i keep all these possibilities open simultaneously and allows the album to emerge in the conceptual space between them.
